Meet Colin Beaven in this feature-length documentary that focuses on his family’s vow to live for one year without making any impact on the environment. In November 2006, Beaven announced his No Impact Project, through which he planned to shake up his family’s complacent liberal consumerism while continuing to live in their Manhattan home. His two-year-old daughter manages just fine among the compost worms, but his wife Michelle suffers withdrawal from coffee and shopping while Colin bears the brunt of heavy criticism from his friends and the media. With great humour and insight, No Impact Man discovers the strength of a family living off the grid and the quiet truths that reveal themselves when the lights go out.
